Hagia Irene, Church of

   Domed basilica in Constantinople (qq.v.), adjacent to Hagia Sophia (q.v.), dedicated to the holy peace (hagia irene) of God. The present church was erected by Justinian I (q.v.) on the ruins of an earlier church that was burned down in the Nika Revolt (q.v.) of 532.
